Inferencing · Level 2

I was rolled around by its enormous force. Miraculously I surfaced. But as I went to take a large gulp of air, a second wave hit me.

The new book was very exciting. Grace didn't realise how long she had spent reading. Sighing she got out of the chair to tum on the light.

Holly watched closely as CJ tossed the dice. Eight. He landed on her brown square. Just what she wanted.

"One thousand dollars please."

CJ paid her one thousand dollars.

His other sister. Rachel was next to throw. The square that she landed on told her to take a card from the stack in the centre. She read the card and passed on the good news to CJ. He paid her five hundred dollars.

Holly's throw saw her collecting from the bank. With a great show, she tidied her money into neat piles.

CJ was now depending on reaching the starting point of the board game again where he could pick up more money. He was in danger of going out. With a silent plea for better luck, he picked up the dice. Holly's unblinking gaze never left him.

"Seven would be so-o-o good. " she hissed.

He felt like a lizard that was being watched by a hungry snake. He threw seven

After he had handed over his remaining cash to her, he stood up. He helped Rachel to pack the game up. Holly stayed in her seat. counting her winnings. She recorded the total in a notebook that she always kept at her side, then she too, stood up.

"Time to go out for hamburgers," she announced. "Lend me five dollars, will you CJ?"
