The old bus bounced over the rickety bridge. There was a clatter as the engine cover flew off, hit the railing and disappeared.

Roy had waited a long time but nothing was happening. Then suddenly the line jerked. In his excitement he tripped over my bag and fell head first into the water.

Scorpions are small animals with poisonous stings at the end of their long tails. The scorpion can curve its tail up over its head.

Scorpions look like insects but they are not. Like other animals in their family, such as spiders, they have eight legs. Behind their heads there is an extra pair of limbs that look like large claws, used to catch their prey. Their sting is mainly used for defence.

Although f scorpion's sting does not often kill humans, people need to take care. A sting from a scorpion causes a fierce burning pain.

A scorpion's young are not hatched from eggs, they are born alive. Until it is a few days old, a baby scorpion's home is its mother's back.

Scorpions live in countries where the daytime temperature is very high. They usually hunt for food at night. They eat insects and spiders and other small animals.
