'Avoidance' is what her father called it: Beth's irritating habit of leaving until the last possible moment the preparations for the new school term. Her maths text book turned up under her bed, as did her calculator. Other books were found buried in her bedroom cupboard. Pencils, pens and a ruler had inexplicably ended up in a kitchen cupboard. A long overdue school library book had also somehow found its way there.
Ben Cross is home for a well-earned rest after spending a year climbing in remote areas of Eastern Europe and central Asia. In the past year Ben has climbed Gora Narodnaya and Mount Sablya in the Ural Mountains of central Russia, as well as Mount Elbrus in the south of the country. He crossed its eastern border into Mongolia to climb Mount Belukha in the Altai Range.
